Intro Post – Going To Texas

I am a software developer living in Chicago, and I have been thinking about relocating to Texas.

I have lived in Illinois my entire life. I have been in Chicago for the past 12 years. I was in college for 6 years (for two degrees) in universities in Central Illinois. The rest of the time I have lived within 30 miles of Chicago.

For most of the 2000′s I was at a large, multinational bank. I lost my job in 2009. I looked for work here in Chicago, and I also thought about moving to another city. I read a lot of articles talking about economic conditions throughout the country, and a common theme was that the bigger cities in Texas will probably see a lot of growth in the coming years. So moving there kept popping up in my head.

I have had a job here in Chicago for about a year now, but I am still considering moving to Texas. It still seems like that is where the growth is going to be. I have no desire whatsoever to live in a suburb of Chicago, or anywhere else in Illinois. I would rather leave Illinois altogether if I cannot or choose not to stay in Chicago.

I do not want to get too confessional, but right now I am not too happy with my job or with my life. Perhaps I have been going on autopilot for too long. Maybe moving would not solve my problems. But I think it would be good to have one place to articulate my thoughts, have one place to collect links, and perhaps get feedback from other people.
