2014-09 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for September, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $536.75. The yearly income total for 2014 through the end of the month was $2,993.02.

The income for September, 2013 was $395.65, and the yearly income total up through that month was $2,374.05. The yearly income this year through September beats the incomes for 2012 and 2013 all the way through to the end of November. I guess if I can keep working and adding money to these accounts, I could have enough dividend income to live off of in about a decade.

  • AFLAC Inc: $38.37
  • American States Water Co: $23.26
  • Black Hills Corp: $13.59

2014-08 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for August, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $323.94. The yearly income total for 2014 through the end of the month was $2456.27. There was a VOD dividend in August. Without that, the total for the month was $286.35, which is more than May’s total of $280.01.

The income for August, 2013 was $305.11, and the yearly income total up through that month was $1978.40. There was a VOD payment in August, 2013. Without VOD, the income that month was $249.23, which is more than the May, 2013 total of $242.65.

At some point I might buy more T or VZ, or both, to get them up to 100 shares. I think some of the ratios for VZ look better.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for August, 2014:

  • AT&T: $27.41

2014-07 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for July, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $198.43. The yearly income total for 2014 through the end of the month was $2132.33.

The income for July, 2013 was $180.57, and the yearly income total up through that month was $1673.29.

I do not own too many stocks that pay dividends in January/April/July/October. I own about half that pay out in those months as I do that pay out in March/June/September/December. I have a buy order on Chubb that closed about 20 cents above my price, and according to Yahoo got within about 12 cents of it. Loading up on stocks that pay out in these months is a priority, but not as high as getting 100 shares of the stocks that I already own.

I might look at the list of dividend payers sent out by David Fish, and see if there are any stocks that pay in January/April/July/October that look compelling.

The S&P 500 actually went down a couple of days this week. I think the correction that everyone has been talking about might be starting.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for July, 2014:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $27.53
  • Coca-Cola Co: $32.99
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $9.82
  • Kimberly-Clark: $46.44
  • Illinois Tool Works: $22.41
  • Chubb Corp: $10.91
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $18.96
  • Sysco Corp: $16.06
  • RPM International Inc.: $13.31

2014-06 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for June, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $522.86. The yearly income total for 2014 through the end of the month was $1933.90.

The income for June, 2013 was $351.48, and the yearly income total up through that month was $1492.72.

This is the first month I got more than $500 without any special dividends. This is due to a few factors.

One is that there are a lot of stocks that pay in March/June/September/December. I have about twice as many stocks that pay dividends in those months as I have that pay in January, April, July and October.

Another is that I bought shares of Kellogg.

Another is that I bought more shares of Exxon and Aflac, bringing my total number of shares in each company above 100.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for June, 2014:

  • AFLAC Inc: $38.14
  • American States Water Co: $21.97
  • Black Hills Corp: $13.50
  • Bemis Co Inc: $26.92
  • ConocoPhillips: $72.74
  • Vectren Corp: $20.18
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland Co: $15.34
  • Chevron    CVX: $24.03
  • Emerson Electric Co: $22.91
  • Johnson & Johnson: $23.62
  • Sonoco Products Co: $21.12
  • Exxon Mobil Corp: $75.02
  • 3M Co: $11.19
  • Walgreen Co: $17.78

  • Dover Corp: $8.44
  • Kellogg Company: $46.00
  • RLI Corp: $20.20
  • Questar Corp: $10.30

The income for May, 2013 was $242.65, and the yearly income total up through that month was $1,141.24.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for May, 2014:

There is not much else to report. I am thinking about going with another broker. So far I have not made a decision.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for April, 2014:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $27.35
  • Chubb Corp: $10.25
  • Coca-Cola Co: $32.73
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $9.76

2014-03 Dividend Income Report

It’s a few days late, but not a dollar short.

Here is the dividend income report for March, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $437.87. The yearly income total for 2014 through the end of the month was $934.15.

The income for March, 2013 was $360.85, and the yearly income total up through that month was $719.36.

I think I broke $400 in December, 2013. There was a special dividend that month. Some stocks do not pay every three months, which can make comparisons between months difficult. Eaton changed from February (in 2012) to March (in 2013) and in 2012 paid its November dividend in October. Still, I think that a milestone has been reached. I think that for some months I will be making more than $400 on a regular basis.

I also got $71.99 from COP. That is the most I have gotten from one stock. My goal is to get all of my stocks up to 100 shares.

I have a few open orders on some stocks. So far none of them have been filled. The market is now up about 10% from when I placed them a month ago. As John Maynard Keynes pointed out, markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. I am not insolvent, but it does seem like nothing can stop the stock market from going higher, not even invasion.

There are a few stocks with P/E ratios lower than 12 or so that I am looking at: AFL, CB, FDO, maybe VZ. They might go down in the summer, as stocks used to do before the Great Recession.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for March, 2014:

  • AFLAC Inc: $19.52
  • American States Water Co: $21.81
  • Black Hills Corp: $13.41
  • Bemis Co Inc: $26.74
  • ConocoPhillips: $71.99
  • Vectren Corp: $19.99
  • Chevron: $22.27
  • Emerson Electric Co: $22.76
  • Sonoco Products Co: $20.31
  • Questar Corp: $9.68
  • Exxon Mobil Corp: $36.75
  • Johnson & Johnson: $22.11
  • 3M Co: $11.12
  • Walgreen Co: $17.70
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland Co: $15.25
  • Valspar Corp: $14.98
  • Consolidated Edison Inc: $18.22
  • RLI Corp: $19.01
  • Eaton Corporation: $25.70
  • Dover Corp: $8.55

2014-02 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for February, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $336.61. The yearly income total for 2014 was $496.28.

The income for February, 2013 was $248.39, and the yearly income total up through that month was $358.51.

There was a dividend from Vodafone of $31.61. Also, Vodafone sold its share of Verizon Wireless to Verizon. This means that I now own some Verizon shares. I also got some cash from the fractional Vodafone and Verizon shares ($29.08 and $37.17). I now own a whole number of shares for both stocks. Without all of these special events, the income was $238.75.

The income for November, 2013 was $252.75. Eaton paid a dividend in November but not in February. Without Eaton, the November income was $230.84. So I guess I am getting ahead.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for February, 2014:

  • ABM Industries Inc: $8.42
  • AT&T: $26.67
  • WGL Holdings Inc: $13.36
  • Lowe’s Cos Inc: $9.47
  • Vodafone: $31.61
  • Air Products & Chemicals Inc: $10.86
  • Texas Instruments: $15.97
  • Colgate-Palmolive: $36.00
  • Clorox Co: $38.28
  • Hormel Foods Corp: $9.35
  • Northwest Natural Gas Co: $25.48
  • Abbott Laboratories: $11.56
  • Procter & Gamble: $33.33
  • Vodafone: $29.08
  • Verizon: $37.17

I just realized that I have been spelling Vodafone as “Vodaphone” for all this time.

2014-01 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for January, 2014.

The monthly dividend income came out to $159.67. The yearly income total for 2014 was $159.67.

The income for January, 2013 was $110.12, and the yearly income total for that month was $110.12.

Due to the ridiculousness over the dividend tax last year, a few companies that pay in January paid them early in December, 2012. There were a few stocks that pay in January/April/July/October that I have sold, like Altria and Family Dollar Stores. So the income for those months might be lower for a while.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for January, 2014:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $27.19
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $9.71
  • Kimberly-Clark: $44.10
  • Chubb Corp: $9.50
  • Illinois Tool Works: $22.18
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $18.02
  • Sysco Corp: $15.81
  • RPM International Inc.: $13.16

2013-12 Dividend Income Report

Here is the dividend income report for December, 2013.

The monthly dividend income came out to $594.59. The yearly income total for 2013 was $3406.20.

The income for December 2012 was $686.10, and the yearly income for was $3585.01.

The income for September, 2013 was $395.65. RLI paid a special dividend in December of $3.00/share, which came out to $161.90. Without that, the income for December would have been $432.69. Coca-Cola also pays its dividend a month early. Without that and the special RLI dividend, the income for December would have been $402.85, still more than September.

The income for 2012 was higher than 2013 for a couple of reasons. One is that I did sell a few stocks. This was offset a bit by the fact that I bought more shares of Conoco-Phillips. The main reason that the income for 2012 was higher was that some companies paid their dividends earlier due to uncertainty in the tax law.

If the stocks that paid their dividends early had instead paid on their regular schedules, then the dividend income for 2012 would have been $3490.89, and the income for 2013 would have been $3500.32. I have to admit, so far dividend growth investing is not quite giving me the bonanza I was hoping for.

When I started buying stocks a few years ago, I started out buying as many shares as I could get for $1000. I wound up with a whopping 12 shares of 3M, and I was buying 0.08 shares a quarter or so. I have not bought any more outside of dividend reinvestment. After 13 quarters, I finally have another whole share of 3M, for a total of 13.001 shares. I will buy more someday, but right now the P/E ratios of almost everything are a bit too high for me. I know I said that I will just buy more stocks in January regardless, but I think I will still wait.

Here are the stocks and the income amounts for December, 2013:

  • AFLAC Inc: $19.41
  • American States Water Co: $21.66
  • Black Hills Corp: $12.97
  • Bemis Co Inc: $16.54
  • ConocoPhillips: $71.32
  • Intel: $11.17
  • Vectren Corp: $19.79
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland Co: $12.02
  • Questar Corp: $9.61
  • Chevron: $22.09
  • Emerson Electric Co: $22.61
  • Johnson & Johnson: $21.96
  • Sonoco Products Co: $20.15
  • Exxon Mobil Corp: $36.51
  • 3M Co: $8.21
  • Walgreen Co: $17.60
  • Valspar Corp: $14.93
  • Dover Corp: $8.36
  • Consolidated Edison Inc: $17.59
  • Coca-Cola Co: $29.84
  • RLI Corp: $18.35
  • RLI Corp: $161.90
