2013-01 Dividend Report

Here is the dividend income report for January, 2013.

The income for the month was only $110.12. The income for January, 2012 was $188.68. This is because a lot of companies paid dividends early. This is the lowest monthly income since July, 2010, when I made $103.25.

(Is it proper to say I “made” dividend income? Technically, other people make it for me.)

A few of the accelerated dividends paid in December, 2012 were dividends that normally would have been paid in February, so I think that February’s numbers will also be lower.

Here are the stocks:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $24.00
  • Kimberly-Clark: $38.95
  • Chubb Corp: $8.67
  • Altria Group: $23.74
  • Sysco Corp: $14.76

Second 2012-12 Dividend Income Report

Here is the second dividend income report for December, 2012. A few companies moved their dividends forward from January (and one from February).

The accelerated dividends came out to $94.12. That brought the monthly income for December to $686.10, and the yearly income for 2012 was $3585.01. The yearly income for 2011 was $3091.99, and for 2010 it was $1336.62.

It is looking like I will only get dividends from five stocks in January.

Here are the stocks:

  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $5.61
  • ABM Industries Inc: $7.94
  • RPM International Inc.: $12.00
  • Valspar Corp: $13.02
  • Caterpillar: $10.85
  • Illinois Tool Works: $19.60
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $9.17
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $15.93

First 2012-12 Dividend Income Report

This is the preliminary dividend income report for December, 2012. I am doing a preliminary report because some companies that usually pay dividends in January have pushed them forward to late December. The companies that have paid so far are companies thay usually pay in December.

Here are the companies that I own stock in that have moved up their January payouts to late December: Family Dollar Stores Inc, Valspar Corp, Caterpillar, Illinois Tool Works, MDU Resources Group Inc. and Piedmont Natural Gas Inc.

The stocks that are still paying in January are Automatic Data Processing, Kimberly-Clark, Altria Group and Sysco Corp. It is interesting that both Altria and Philip Morris International, Inc, two conservative corporations, are both sticking with their normal schedule and paying in January. It looks like January will be pretty lean.

In December, RLI Corp paid a regular dividend of $0.32 and a special dividend of $5.00. So there will be a few more stats than usual.

Here are the stats without the special dividend. The income in December was $345.99. The income in September, 2012 was $315.21. The income in December, 2011 was $272.30. The yearly income for 2012 was $3244.90. The yearly income for 2011 was $2849.35. If I had 100 shares of each stock, the income would have been $810.00. For September, if I owned 100 shares, my income would have been $780,50.

With the special dividend, the December, 2012 income so far is $591.98, with the yearly income at $3490.89. The income for December, 2011 was $514.94, with yearly income of $3091.99.

Here are the stocks:

  • American States Water Co: $18.45
  • Black Hills Corp: $12.18
  • Intel: $10.72
  • AFLAC Inc: $17.89
  • Bemis Co Inc: $15.47
  • ConocoPhillips: $33.39
  • Vectren Corp: $18.67

2012-11 Dividend Income

The income for November 2012 was $247.99, bringing my yearly dividend income to $2898.91. If I had 100 shares of each of these stocks, my income would have been $567.20.

In August, the income was $316.04, and the theoretical income of 100 shares would have been $701.70, $600.02 without Vodafone. In November, 2011, the income was $246.37, with yearly income at the end of that month of $2577.05.

The income for November was lower than for August. That is because in August there was a dividend from Vodafone, which only pays out twice a year, and a dividend from Eaton, which moved its dividend up a month to October. In August, the dividend income minus Vodafone and Eaton was $243.74, which is less than the $247.99 I got in November.

Here are the stocks:

  • AT&T: $23.97
  • WGL Holdings Inc: $12.14
  • ABM Industries Inc: $7.62
  • Lowe’s Cos Inc: $8.25
  • Pentair Inc: $12.37
  • Air Products & Chemicals Inc: $9.44
  • Abbott Laboratories: $26.79
  • Colgate-Palmolive: $31.92
  • Hormel Foods Corp: $6.86
  • Northwest Natural Gas Co: $23.93
  • Procter & Gamble: $29.98
  • Clorox Co: $33.15
  • Texas Instruments: $10.79
  • Caterpillar: $10.78

2012-10 Dividend Income

Here is the Dividend Income Report for October, 2012. The income was $225.14. The income for October, 2011 was $208.90. The income for July, 2012 was $219.72.

If I had 100 shares of all of these stocks, the income would have been $437.25. The theoretical income of 100 shares in July, 2012 would have been $459.00. I sold Cincinnati Financial Corp, and Eaton moved up its dividend up a month. So I could do a bunch of math for a better comparison, but I don’t feel like it.

Here are the stocks:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $21.64
  • Coca-Cola Co: $26.26
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $8.84
  • Kimberly-Clark: $38.61
  • Chubb Corp: $8.63
  • Illinois Tool Works: $19.48
  • Altria Group: $23.74
  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $5.59
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $15.77
  • Valspar Corp: $11.28
  • Eaton Corporation: $19.29
  • Sysco Corp: $14.11
  • RPM International Inc.: $11.90

2012-09 Dividend Income

The income for September 2012 was $315.21, bringing my yearly dividend income to $2425.78. If I had 100 shares of each of these stocks, my income would have been $780.50.

In June, the income was $305.84, and the theoretical income of 100 shares would have been $762.30. In September, 2011, the income was $243.26, and the income of 100 shares of each would have been $646.90. The yearly income at the end of September, 2011 was $2121.78. My 2011 dividend income reached $2430.23 on November 14, 2011. So I guess I am pulling ahead.

Here are the stocks:

  • American States Water Co: $18.30
  • Black Hills Corp: $12.05
  • Intel: $10.62
  • AFLAC Inc: $16.87

2012-08 Dividend Income

Here is the monthly dividend income report.

The income for August 2012 was $316.04, bringing my yearly dividend income to $2110.57. If I had 100 shares of each of these stocks, my income would have been $701.70.

One of the stocks was Vodafone, which does not pay every quarter. Without Vodafone the monthly income was $262.87, and the income of 100 shares would have been $600.02.

In May 2012, the income was $258.15, and the theoretical income of 100 shares would have been $588.20.

In August, 2011, the income was $322.35, and the income of 100 shares of each would have been $671.60. That includes Vodafone and Universal Corporation (UVV), which I have since sold.

So if you include just the stocks that I still have, they are all still increasing or at least maintaining their dividends.

Here are the stocks:

  • AT&T: $23.69
  • Vodafone: $53.17
  • WGL Holdings Inc: $12.02
  • ABM Industries Inc: $7.56
  • Lowe’s Cos Inc: $8.20

2012-07 Dividend Income

It is time for the monthly dividend income report.

The total for July, 2012 was $219.72. The yearly income up until the end of July was $1794.53. All I have to do is increase that seven-fold and it could come close to handling my monthly expenses.

If I had 100 shares of each stock, I would have earned $459.00. That is also how much 100 shares would have earned three months ago. This is because there were no dividend increased this month. But the income from three months ago was $218.56. I have resumed having my broker reinvest the shares automatically.

In July, 2011, the numbers were: $1556.17 for 2011 through July, $204.83 in July, and $432.30 if I had 100 shares of each stock back then.

Here are the stocks:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $21.64
  • Coca-Cola Co: $26.08
  • MDU Resources Group Inc: $8.77
  • Kimberly-Clark: $38.27
  • Chubb Corp: $8.58
  • Illinois Tool Works: $18.33
  • Altria Group: $22.12
  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $5.58
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $16.44
  • Cincinnati Financial Corp: $17.41
  • Valspar Corp: $11.24
  • Sysco Corp: $13.98
  • RPM International Inc.: $11.28

2012-06 Dividend Income

It is time for the monthly dividend income report. The total dividend income for June, 2012 was $305.84, compared with $294.68 in March, 2012. This is one of the bigger months in terms of income.

But it’s still not enough to pay my rent.

If I had 100 shares of all the stocks that paid dividends in June, the income would have been $762.30. For March, if I had 100 shares of all the stocks that paid dividends, the income would have been $733.00.

For June 2011, the income was $236.50, and if I had 100 shares of each stock in June, 2011 the income would have been $637.90. The increase for the theoretical 100 shares was 19%. The increase in the actual income was 29%.

I am not sure why there was a difference in the rates of increase. My guess is that I do not have an equal number of shares of each stock. I will get to this as I write my “Dividend Journey” series. I have different number of shares of each stock.

Here are the stocks:

  • AFLAC Inc: $16.87
  • American States Water Co: $14.44
  • Black Hills Corp: $11.92
  • Bemis Co Inc: $15.35
