2012-07 Dividend Income

It is time for the monthly dividend income report.

The total for July, 2012 was $219.72. The yearly income up until the end of July was $1794.53. All I have to do is increase that seven-fold and it could come close to handling my monthly expenses.

If I had 100 shares of each stock, I would have earned $459.00. That is also how much 100 shares would have earned three months ago. This is because there were no dividend increased this month. But the income from three months ago was $218.56. I have resumed having my broker reinvest the shares automatically.

In July, 2011, the numbers were: $1556.17 for 2011 through July, $204.83 in July, and $432.30 if I had 100 shares of each stock back then.

Here are the stocks:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $21.64
  • Coca-Cola Co: $26.08
  • MDU Resources Group Inc: $8.77
  • Kimberly-Clark: $38.27
  • Chubb Corp: $8.58
  • Illinois Tool Works: $18.33
  • Altria Group: $22.12
  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $5.58
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $16.44
  • Cincinnati Financial Corp: $17.41
  • Valspar Corp: $11.24

  • RPM International Inc.: $11.28

2012-06 Dividend Income

It is time for the monthly dividend income report. The total dividend income for June, 2012 was $305.84, compared with $294.68 in March, 2012. This is one of the bigger months in terms of income.

But it’s still not enough to pay my rent.

If I had 100 shares of all the stocks that paid dividends in June, the income would have been $762.30. For March, if I had 100 shares of all the stocks that paid dividends, the income would have been $733.00.

For June 2011, the income was $236.50, and if I had 100 shares of each stock in June, 2011 the income would have been $637.90. The increase for the theoretical 100 shares was 19%. The increase in the actual income was 29%.

I am not sure why there was a difference in the rates of increase. My guess is that I do not have an equal number of shares of each stock. I will get to this as I write my “Dividend Journey” series. I have different number of shares of each stock.

Here are the stocks:

  • AFLAC Inc: $16.87
  • American States Water Co: $14.44
  • Black Hills Corp: $11.92
  • Bemis Co Inc: $15.35

2012-04 Dividend Income

For April, 2012 my dividend income was $218.56.

For comparison, I will not just list the income from three months ago. I will list the income for three, six, nine and twelve months ago. It is not always good to compare to three months ago since I have some stocks that only pay dividends twice a year, pay special dividends or occasionally shift their payout schedule.

For January 2012, it was $188.68, for October 2011 it was $208.90, for July 2011 it was $204.83 and for April 2011 it was $203.10.

2012-03 Dividend Income

Here is my dividend income for March, 2012.

There was no Coke dividend this quarter, even though Coke paid a dividend in December. In fact, the Coke dividend came in today. I bought ConocoPhillips, and this was the first month I got a dividend from that company.

The total for the month was $294.68. If you account for the special RLI dividend and Coke dividend in December and the new ConocoPhillips dividend, I was still ahead.

Here are the stocks and what they paid:

  • AFLAC Inc: $16.87
  • American States Water Co: $14.44
  • Black Hills Corp: $11.79
  • Bemis Co Inc: $15.35
  • ConocoPhillips: $33.00
  • Intel: $9.83
  • Vectren Corp: $18.19
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland Co: $10.74
  • Emerson Electric Co: $20.27
  • Sonoco Products Co: $18.00
  • Exxon Mobil Corp: $26.34
  • Chevron: $16.90
  • 3M Co: $7.31
  • Questar Corp: $8.20
  • Walgreen Co: $12.15
  • Johnson & Johnson: $17.87
  • Dover Corp: $6.78
  • Consolidated Edison Inc: $16.09

2012-02 Dividend Income

Here is my dividend income for February, 2012.

The total for the month was $308.90. The total for the same group of stocks 3 months prior (November, 2011) was $246.37. I got a dividend from Vodafone in Februrary that was $57.58, so the total without Vodaphone was $251.32. That is still an increase over November, 2011 with the same group of stocks. Vodaphone pays dividends twice a year. I know I am starting to look like Motorola in the early 2000’s by giving all these qualifications with my totals, but I want the comparisons to be as accurate as possible.

Here are the numbers:

  • AT&T: $23.69
  • WGL Holdings Inc: $11.53
  • Vodaphone: $24.91
  • Vodaphone: $32.67
  • ABM Industries Inc: $7.51
  • Lowe’s Cos Inc: $7.14
  • Pentair Inc: $12.37
  • Air Products & Chemicals Inc: $8.43
  • Clorox Co: $30.80
  • Texas Instruments: $8.64
  • Abbott Laboratories: $25.21
  • Colgate-Palmolive: $29.68
  • Hormel Foods Corp: $6.79
  • Northwest Natural Gas Co: $23.19

2012-01 Dividend Income

Here is my dividend income for January, 2012.

The total was $188.68. The total for the same stocks 3 months ago (October, 2011) was $208.90. As I mentioned in my previous dividend income update, Coca-Cola (KO) is on a weird dividend schedule. They paid a dividend in October, 2011, and their next dividend payment was in December, 2011. The total for October, 2011 without KO was $165.13. So I think it is fair to say my dividend income is going up.

Here are the totals:

  • Automatic Data Processing: $21.64
  • MDU Resources Group Inc: $8.71
  • Kimberly-Clark: $36.20
  • Chubb Corp: $8.11
  • Illinois Tool Works: $18.33
  • Altria Group: $22.12
  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $4.77
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $15.10
  • Valspar Corp: $11.24
  • Cincinnati Financial Corp: $17.20
  • Sysco Corp: $13.98
  • RPM International Inc: $11.28

December Dividend Income

It is time to post my December, 2011 dividend income.

There are a few more stats for this month than usual.

Coca-Cola pays dividends in April, July, October and December. Other companies that pay dividends in April, July and October pay their other dividend of the year in January. For some reason Coca-Cola pushes that dividend forward one month. I thought they just did it last year because there was a chance the dividend tax rate could change. But paying one of them early seems to be the routine.

Another change is that RLI paid a regular quarterly dividend of 30 cents and a special dividend of $5.00. This is the second year in a row that they have paid a special dividend.

In September, 2011 my dividend income was $243.26. Without Coca-Cola or the special RLI dividend, my December, 2011 dividend income was $248.26. With the Coca-Cola dividend, my December income was $272.30. With both the Coca-Cola and special RLI dividends, my December, 2011 income was $514.94.

  • AFLAC Inc: $16.87
  • American States Water: $14.44
  • Black Hills Corp: $11.63
  • Bemis Co Inc: $14.73
  • Intel: $9.83
  • Vectren Corp: $18.19
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland: $10.74
  • Emerson Electric Co: $8.27
  • Sonoco Products: $18.00
  • Exxon Mobil: $26.34
  • Chevron: $16.90
  • 3M Co: $6.81
  • Questar Corp: $8.20
  • Walgreen Co: $12.15
  • Johnson & Johnson: $17.87
  • Dover Corp: $6.78
  • Consolidated Edison: $15.95
  • Coca-Cola Co: $24.04
  • RLI Corp: $14.56
  • RLI Corp: $242.64

November Dividend Income

Here is my dividend income for November, 2011. The total for the month is $246.37. The income for three months prior was $322.35. It went down because in August I got a dividend from Vodafone, which pays semi-annual dividends, and not quarterly dividends like US stocks do. I also sold Universal Corporation in the interim. Some of the remaining stocks increased their dividend, and none of them cut their dividend.

  • AT&T: $23.15
  • WGL Holdings Inc: $11.53
  • Lowe’s Cos Inc: $7.14
  • ABM Industries Inc: $7.25
  • Air Products & Chemicals Inc: $8.43
  • Clorox Co: $30.80
  • Pentair Inc: $11.25
  • Abbott Laboratories: $25.21
  • Colgate-Palmolive: $29.68
  • Hormel Foods Corp: $5.77
  • Northwest Natural: $23.19
  • Procter & Gamble: $27.77
  • Caterpillar: $9.44
  • Texas Instruments: $8.64
  • Eaton Corporation: $17.12

October Dividend Income

Joining the bandwagon for the second month in a row, I am posting my dividend income for October, 2011.

The total was $208.90, for a year-to-date total of $2,330.68. The monthly total was less than last month, but that is okay since it is a different set of stocks. It is still higher than the total from three months prior with the same stocks. This is partially since at the time I was still having the dividends re-invested, but now I am letting the dividends go to cash. It is partially due to the fact that a few of the stocks increased their dividends.

  • Automatic Data Processing : $19.73
  • Coca-Cola Co : $24.04
  • MDU Resources Group Inc.: $8.45
  • Kimberly-Clark: $36.20
  • Chubb Corp: $8.11
  • Altria Group: $22.12
  • Illinois Tool Works: $18.33
  • Family Dollar Stores Inc: $4.77
  • Piedmont Natural Gas Inc: $15.10
  • Valspar Corp: $10.11
  • Cincinnati Financial Corp: $17.20
  • Sysco Corp: $13.46
  • RPM International: $11.28
